[plotting] trapped in idol hell

So around.... Day 33 or later, pretty much some time after the vigil and the group talks to KunKun, Ilde takes roboSam with her to go hang out with some subspace kids and meet up with some of their underground friends.

Posing as this idol singer 'Saffron' and her manager, Ilde and Sam are asking a few question of a hacker named Y and her robo-buddy Kellix. You can read about it here for the direct transcript.

Along the way, Y suggests that Ilde should throw a concert with KunKun as their celebrity guest to try to lure the terrorist bombers back out into the open.

Ilde's perspective on this is that Y is trying to call her bluff about really being an idol, but she also knows how little she understands most of what happens on this planet, so she would check in with the others via mental link, and her actions going forward would depend on the advice she got.

I think it would be fun to do the IC mental link post regardless of the result, but it also seems like it would be a good idea to check in about how people were feeling OOCly and to see what they'd like to get out of this interaction.

ETA: enough strong voices are opposed to pursuing the concert, so I've just posted the actual IC content here

Given that they have another route to finding out the bombers (thanks to baby Sam), Lexa is going to be adamantly against this because it will draw too much attention and put their people at risk. Her current opinion is that they need to be more forceful with their mind powers, and doing such a public event will just draw too much attention and put the Hosts at risk. Plus, it could put Kun-Kun at risk, and he's a useful contact right now.

I'm cool with her saying this in a mental link, but yeah! That's where Miss Commander Girl stands on this.

Pidge is sort of baffled by the concept, but more power to you guys? She's working her own angle on some stuff via the extranet, but she'll volunteer some of her tech skills to try and pull it off. She's done the whole sneaking around thing before.

Mara thinks it's a good idea to drag people out into the open, but only if the place is aggressively boobytrapped and covered in surveillance to make sure potential bombers would be caught

and uh to make sure members of the Nest are safe

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Rey will - surprisingly? - be for it, despite the danger. No better way to lure potential predators out than throwing fresh meat at them, "baby anooba at a swarm of gnaw-jaws", etc.

She will also probably volunteer to be on security detail of some sort?

Lexa (who comes from a hunting world) would be pretty against treating them as if they are prey to be hunted without some measure of controlling the atmosphere (her reason being that that's how her people strategically do hunt down enemies). They do utilize baiting, rounding people up in one place, etc., but there would be no way to control all of the elements. Besides, planning an event where more people get killed may mean that they can get framed for the bombings, especially since their identities are (as reported by Exxxtra) so damn shaky.

okay! Lexa's entitled to feel that way, for good reason - but that's not going to change Rey's mind. She's not treating everyone as though they're "meat to be hunted" by terrorists, but her mindset is fairly "eat or be eaten" based on her formative years in a hostile wasteland, and she's not entirely used to anyone depending on her/being dependent on others. So while yes, it's risky, and the idea of using a concert as bait is nothing less than ethically questionable, her rationale will be that this is probably the best opportunity they may have to lure the terrorists into action again - and unlike the gaming parlour bombing, this time an attack will be expected (and hopefully thwarted). She sees the risk outweighing the potential benefit of uncovering who might be behind the bombing, thereby furthering the goals of their mission.

Alternately, she'd be up for it if anyone had any better ideas, but no one's volunteering anything else yet, sooo.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

well, she'll leave it to the Nest at large to decide by majority vote, but her opinion that a concert to draw them out is still a good idea stands.

Sam'll be pretty neutral on this - more like yeah it's dangerous but it's also a decent plan that might work. So if people decide to do it, he'll be there for security or as a medic or even helping coordinate the concert, whatever's useful.

He'll also suggest or be in favor of also acting on baby Sam's information if they decide to go the concert route to cover all their bases.

In the vein of being That Guy, Bruce will not be down for this idea. Though he isn't against using bait, he won't be able to condone something which he views as unacceptably precarious -- i.e. what if the bombers do show up but they also manage to get away with another bombing, and hurting/killing more people? What if they still get away, and they have an even bigger mess on their hands? Blah blah blah, too many variables.

What a stick in the mud.

Sam would probably be pretty shaky on the idea tbh, given the potential for mass casualties, especially so soon after Anakin. A large concert would be too hard to control. Something smaller, maybe, they could, with Ren and Ahsoka Force-sweeping the crowd, but with that many it's too big of a risk :|a

As much as he's gunning to catch these guys, Steve's going to be on team party pooper about the idea of baiting known bombers to another large public setting.

Another for team party pooper. Bellamy's all for luring out the bombers, but there's too much potential for the bombers to get the drop on them and set off an explosion. His view is that there's too much possibility for the bombers to get one over on them and cause another incident with too little possibility of catching them either before or after they manage it. Too much risk, too little shot at reward, etc
