CURRENT EVENTS
CONCORDIA, DAY :48 - :052
Do you like lists of data? Good, because that’s what you’ve got to work with. There’s three in total: one from Mind Life head Sheena Frey, containing a list of individuals she thinks are unlikely to be directly involved in the bombings or members of H+H1; one from the terminal of Public Security Commissioner Ngozi, consisting of a series of slush casework that’s cropped up parallel to Public Security’s investigation of the bombings; and lastly, a list of high value donors pilfered from the tablet of Saffit’s personal assistant. By cross-referencing all three, there are a few commonalities (or notable exceptions, in the case of Sheena’s list). They are:KUSUMA MING - Ming (mid-40’s) is the mastermind behind Ming Imperial Digital, a private security company whose stocks have risen considerably since the bombings in Concordia began. Public fear mongering is good for private security. Ming is an extremely private person with a reputation for being something of an ice queen and notably unfriendly to anyone meddling in her private affairs. She isn’t difficult to keep tabs on - its well known that she keeps a penthouse in a thriving sector of Delta Block, and that she travels to the Ming Imperial offices on a daily basis in addition to having a quiet social life with a few select friends -, but she is extremely hard to get close to. It should be unsurprising that the woman behind one of the leading security forces in Concordia has almost ironclad personal security. The same can’t quite be said for Ming’s current significant other, a woman named Fahima Hanne. Hanne is an editor for a minor extranet news feed; while she’s reasonably technically savvy by Concordian standards, it would be considerably more likely to attempt to track Ming by way of Hanne. Finding individuals by cross-referencing the location pings of their known associates has gotten the Hosts into trouble before; maybe it’s time to finally use that to your advantage.
AYTAC DEVIN - ...was one of the names in Ngozi’s list of slush cases. Devin (late 50’s) is one of those old money Concordian elite who makes money off money and increases that income by buying up and managing property (something of a commodity in a city like this one). In the aftermath of the Royal Parlor bombing, one of Devin’s investment properties suffered some minor vandalism as he demanded that Public Security patrols in the area be increased - conveniently at the same time that the investigation into the bombings should have been drawing on most of Public Security’s workforce; for some reason(as of yet uncovered, though we’ll update this if Pidge gets into Ngozi’s private data partition), Ngozi bowed to the demand. All that said, Devin seems to largely be the affable grandfather type and quite the family man. The Devin family is one of those traditional, sprawling Concordian families and it’s clear that Devin puts a lot of time into doting on them. He has a slew of nieces and nephews and is still celebrating his first grandchild even though the kid’s six years old. Devin regularly attends any activity this his grandchild is participating in, though at the moment that usually amounts to days in the park and baby’s first martial arts classes. Find one and you’ll likely find the other. That said, Devin does seem to often travel with two body guards - a slim man by the name of Leoban Vurwal, and a bruiser-type woman named Alani Amir.
KALUP AQUILA - Some of you might remember poor Farem Ven, one of the unlucky men injured by the warehouse bombing who then was suspiciously reticent about answering any questions posted to him once he was released from the hospital. Kalup Aquila (60’s) happens to own that hospital. Once one of Concordia’s leading neurosurgeons(stares directly at Koke), Kalup has since retired to the humble life of cut-throat administrator and director of operations. She’s deeply involved in politics and technical development grants, but only as far as they benefit her hospital; in general, Kalup is a frighteningly deft businesswoman whose passion in life appears to be the preservation of, and the continued quality of human life. That a noble goal, ...isn’t it? That said, Kalup is relatively low profile and has very few notable enemies and therefore doesn’t travel with much of a retinue. Her data security might be iron clad, but her physical security is less so. She conducts herself much like any average citizen might: she has routines, favorite lunch spots, notable friends and business relations; though Kalup has family, they’re all grown and she currently lives alone (her husband passed away not long before she retired from being a surgeon). Kalup travels frequently, speaks at multiple conferences all over Opia, and generally lives a very active lifestyle. She goes for a walk every morning and enjoys swimming, the Concordian equivalent of tennis, and has a passion for motorcycles.
The other important note of information garnered from Saffit’s fundraiser regards Saffit’s own personal involvement with H+H1; he’s evidently been receiving information from persons unknown. This information includes advance warning of the the past two bombings, though he hasn’t yet received any data referencing further attacks in the future. Much of his anti-android information and sound bytes have been supplied to him by an unknown benefactor - he doesn’t know who they are, but he’s happy to use their anonymous tips to further his career. Vitally: Saffit has been receiving this information the old fashioned way, aka on paper. It seems that whoever is behind his tips has an extreme aversion to storing and transmitting data digitally. It seems that H+H1 is using the same ploy that Bruce et al used to infiltrate Public Security HQ: by eschewing technology in a world build on it, H+H1 agents have essentially managed to make their activities completely invisible.
What this means is that to find H+H1, the hosts will have to do things the old fashioned way - so put on your best nondescript fashion, because it’s time to stalk the three above suspects. If no one else recommends this approach, Carata will strongly encourage it. Carata will emphasize that the goal is to track them back to the nest of H+H1, not to confront them individually; whether that happens or not, though? Well, that’s up to you.IN OTHER NEWS... There has been no statement involving any break-in at the Public Security HQ. That said, strict security checkpoints have been instituted at major throughways in the city. If you’re using any kind of public transportation (everyone does), expect to be subjected to a thorough personal data and identity scan. The official statement on this is that PS is beefing up their efforts to identify persons involved in the Royal Parlor bombing (sorry, Sam Alexander). Luckily for the hosts who broke into PS HQ, they won’t be recognized; unfortunately this means that any host who has a security flag on their ID for illicit activities will either have to exclusively use private transportation through the city or be subjected to questioning and possible jail time. There is no warning that these measures are being instated, so it’s very possible to find yourself at the front of a line facing a very bad surprise. Sam Alexander's light show on the day of the Public Security HQ break-in is now an aliens meme. Petre's bad behavior at Saffit's fundraiser didn't go unnoticed; extranet articles quickly begin to circulate about how Bout It Out's enfant terrible is back at it again! Could he be facing rehab? If he's running with Saffit's crowd, maybe he has a sordid vendetta against Kun-Kun! Click here for more unbelievable details! More scandal! At least one of Saffit's supporters was seen cavorting with some kind of chorus girl in some shadowy corner of the fundraiser hall and their wife was mistakenly sent evidence of this. Another supporter ended up losing a huge amount of money at the gambling tables. Ilde will be funneling anything she knows to Y, her native Concordian hacker contact. (Want to add something that isn't here?
Chime in at WORLD BUILD SUGGESTIONS.)
TIMELINE OF EVENTS
DAYS :48-50 (November 9-23) The hosts track the three suspects. One suspect will eventually lead somewhere significant; which suspect is the right one will be determined by in-character actions and player involvement (for more information, see the ooc updates and notes below). A log WILL be posted as a catchall for following the suspects, but feel free to do additional IC leg work independent of this log. Sam Anders and Giorno Giovanni fall into a (long-term) coma, along with Clint, Rey, Lexa, Angel, Peter and Aoba.
DAY :051 (November 24 - 27) - The hosts gather vital information from a knowledgeable individual. A log WILL be posted for this.
DAY :052 (November 28 - December ?) The events in Concordia come to a bombastic head. Save the world or burn it down - but at the end of the day, the hosts better be ready to make their getaway. A log WILL be posted for this.
OOC UPDATES
Hey all! As you may have noticed, a lot of the information is this calendar is OOC information; players whose characters have relevant plot elements - information on the list of donors, etc - are welcome to shell out the information however they like (ICly or by handwaving, or not at all if you feel it’s IC for the character, etc.) We’re leaving IC information dispersal in your capable hands, but don’t feel obligated to thread everything if that’s not what you want to do/your schedule allows.
We’ve done our best to build story beats while keeping things reactive to player input, but if you find yourself struggling to plot or thread something effectively, please don’t hesitate to call on us to assist. But also: we trust you guys - we’ve given you character sketches for your suspects, but you’re absolutely welcome to NPC them as your threads require. Consider them tools in your toolbox. We’ll be keeping a close eye on things and looking for opportunities to modjack threads for plot purposes. We'll be determining which of the three leads to the plot important beat by character actions in thread and by player involvement - simply put, the thread that’s the fastest moving with the best IC approach will likely be it in the interest of keeping forward velocity. That said, while one of these suspects will lead somewhere significant to the plot, that doesn’t mean you can’t do wild stuff with the other two - we strongly encourage you to use this as an opportunity to develop your character’s narrative, motivations, etc. You guys are welcome to utilize these characters for your own use and plots. That said, if something isn’t going at the pace that seems workable to you or if you feel like something is stalling because you don’t feel confident in moving something forward, we’re here for you! There is a sign-ups post below so you can sound off on which of the suspects your character is tracking, if any.
However! Don’t feel like you’re obligated to meet some kind of pre-determined expectation or that your character has to be involved with investigating this list of suspects at all. We’re drawing close to the end of Concordia; if you have player plots in the works - say, building an android liberating EMP, getting arrested, or passing information about head chip personality storage -, we strongly advise you to move forward on those as soon as possible. Concordia’s a ticking clock and we plan to integrate as much as we can into the final days of the mission, but if characters are slow to act on plans then they make run out of time to accomplish them before extraction becomes necessary.
We’ve kept a lot of this calendar purposefully vague to allow for player and character input to develop Concordia end game. We’ll continue to feed you more detailed information as the month goes on. Also, we understand that the holidays can be a busy time for everyone - as such, we’re planning for the last action packed day of Concordia to be paced sedately from an OOC perspective. If it wraps up early: cool! But don’t feel like we have to do anything at breakneck speed. We anticipate being back on the Station for the start of the new year at the latest.
A quick aside for those of you on hiatus: we don't want anyone to feel like they're locked off from the last day(s) on Concordian by their OOC availability, so feel free to backdate and wobble your character's place in the timeline accordingly if you want/need to when you get back!
As always, feel free to use this space to plot and plan; if you have any questions for us, don’t hesitate to ask them below if they’re related to current events and plots, or on the FAQ or the MOD CONTACT posts if they’re more general!

fun times with y
asking now: mara locates y, sneaks into her apartment and waits for her to come home, possibly while eating her food. says that they need to talk, steers the conversation toward breaking emotion chips on androids. tries (!!!) not to egregiously threaten her.
no subject
Having no memory of being forced to answer Aoba's questions, Y is clearly under the impression that she came out on top of the conversation that last time she and Mara met. That said, she doesn't seem inherently against the idea of having a conversation - isn't this nice, everyone being honest about how shady they are? -, she'll just go about it in her patented better than thou way. When conversation approaches breaking the android's emotional inhibitor chips-- "Oh, that's interesting. Now why would you want to do a thing like that?"
no subject
mara will ask why y (ha) wouldn't want to break it. mara was under the impression that y enjoyed sewing chaos and disorder to get back at the big guy. her sources tell her that's all y is about. let's drop the pretense, mara says, that they aren't on the same side. this furthers both their goals.
no subject
Y grins, but doesn't answer directly. Maybe she hadn't considered the idea before? Maybe she talks a big game but doesn't like the idea of being on the squishy human side of an android-human conflict if something went really wrong? She shrugs; she probably puts some tea on - offers Mara some. "I'm not saying it's a bad idea, it's just a little off script from what you and little miss pop idol were asking about earlier."
Suffice to say, she seems amenable to the concept.
no subject
mara opts to fabricate a lie that will play to y's obvious sense of importance and need for advantages. she takes the tea and pretends to drink it (you never know!!!!) and says that she doesn't see eye-to-eye with all of her allies. based on what information mara has on y, she thought y would be more amenable to mara's... proposal

mara has a client who would like their emotional inhibitor chip broken, and mara wants more information about the process to see if she can use it to the benefit of other allies. however, since said client is an android, there's a limited amount of information they can provide mara. she'd like more information from an experienced hand at this (significant look @ y) before she moves forward. they're working on the memory silo at omega gardens, and have procured [laundry list of other gadgets they've picked up]. if they had someone like y's expertise at their disposal, how would she proceed?
this speech brought to you by the letter p, as in pander.

There's a flicker of actual revulsion at the idea of using the memory silo for anything, followed by a flicker of -- is she impressed? That's ballsy.
"Well." She drums her fingers on her cup, then launches into a rambling narrative - if it were her, if that's what she wanted to do, she'd want to figure out a way to network the memory banks to work as broadcasting towers. As far as she knows, they store data directly - as in, any data stored there has to be physically dumped from a mental chip -, but she feels confident that there has to be some kind of internalized network to the silos that could be modified for long range broadcast of of a data scrambler. And if there isn't... well, whatever. Using just the omega silo's processing power would still net you a pretty wide area of affect even without the others. A little kitchen built scrambler won't do much if it isn't plugged into something bigger for broadcast. --That is what you're building with that junk, right? A scrambler for the wireless chip feed.
In which case the real problem is the hardwire. You need a way to kill that at the same time as jamming the wireless signal that won't melt all the other android's processing. Even with the wireless signal being scrambled, an android can't chop their own inhibitor hardwire, so....
Oh. You could just roast the chip. Hi-jack the wireless signal instead of jamming it. But if it were her, she'd want a couple of tests to make sure it wasn't going to be fry the rest of the android. Maybe find some test subjects first for some, uh, localized trials.
"--You're wrong, by the way. Your 'client' isn't an android; it's whoever is telling it what to do."
no subject
mara asks if y's ever done anything like this before. she seems very experienced, but is all her knowledge theoretical?
she pretends to sip her tea, and considers y's little tidbit of advice, pausing a bit to make it seem like she's changed mara's mind. "What makes you say that?"
no subject
As for the rest... "Because that's just how androids work. That emotion inhibitor chip you want to fry is their basic failsafe. Sure, it limits their emotional activity but it doesn't delete it - it just reroutes it. So an android can't get angry. That anger gets rerouted into loyalty or the desire to do good or whatever and all of it's tied to their owners and stuff. Whatever your client thinks they want might not even be them. Like, for example, take Kellix." Y grins. "He might think he's being sneaky by going to you undercover but you know his owner's letting him do it. Like he's not chilling with me for fun, either. Whoever owns him wants something from both of us. Or wants to keep their hands clean."
no subject
and mara doesn't really like y.
but anyway. she piles on some skepticism; now that she's been given the approval she craves, mara wants to see what happens when she removes it, if only for a few moments, "you don't know who owns kellix?"
no subject
So no.
