MISSION OVERVIEW: WAYPOINT SHRIL PT. 2

WELCOME TO THE ABA!

This is it - the moment you've all been waiting for! On Day :33, Waypoint Shril's transformation solidifies for the AURORA BLUE ARENA!'s opening ceremonies. Strap in everyone, it's going to be an exceptionally bumpy ride.

Remember that until the competition line-up is revealed at the opening ceremonies, characters won't know what's ICly in store for them. Additionally, remember that teams must be comprised of at least two and no more than four characters. Once they'd been chipped for the competition, teams are required by the ABA! and Intergalactic Underlaw to compete - so no backing out just because you've got cold feet, bucko!

A log will be posted for the Opening Ceremonies and subsequent events, however you're encourage and welcome to make logs of your own if you're characters either aren't competing or at busy between events. There will also be a Closing Awards Ceremony log posted individual of the catch-all. Remember that it's not required for Hosts to compete, but if you're going to try and get your grubby hands on the prize pool it might be a good idea to do so before they're being awarded to whoever makes it to the winner's podium.

COMPETITION OVERVIEW

THE AURORA BLUE ARENA!
DAY :33 - :39 (April 10 - April 30)

OPENING CEREMONIES

The Aurora Blue Arena! officially kicks off with the opening ceremonies. On Day :33 the Stadium opens and the seats begin to fill (people have been lining up for about three days prior). Excitement builds until it finally crescendos with the beginning of the event.

The Opening Ceremonies serve to kick the ABA! off right - which means going very, very big. The show begins with an explosion - literally. The center of the stadium holds what appears to be a very, very large electric blue box. As the clock hits 7:77, a huge blinding and deafening explosion originates from the electric blue box. The crowd is stunned to silence for a moment as vision and ringing ears clear. Then they start screaming. Where there was once an almost empty field there is now a huge stage flashing with rainbow lights, flames arching overhead as a rainbow of beings dance across it in an intricate, unbelievably well choreographed performance of what seems to be a thousand people wearing very, very little. A live band playing hundreds of instruments that produce a deep thumping beat fills the air. It’s from the center of this cacophony that the three judges arise from the floor on individual platforms. They rise until they hover fifty feet above the performance, backlit by flames and rainbow lights. MISS MYSTERY - a two headed, four armed and legged woman wearing color coordinated domino masks and a power suit made out of liquid glitter -, SALDO SALDO - a writhing inhuman mass of shadows in a top hat -, and TALIUS REX - a giant purple lobster with incredible false eyelashes - are the biggest personalities in the galaxy and it’s they who hold the fates of the competitors in their hands, claws, and tentacles.

As the dance number comes to an end, the judge's voices rise to welcome the audience both here and across the galaxy to the most amazing competition in the universe. There’s plenty of pomp and plenty of circumstance as they highlight previous victors, past upsets, losses, and victories (all of it backed up by holograms playing out around them). Eventually, with a special look at the competitors in their reserved seats near the front of the stage, they begin to explain the rules.

Each competition will take up most of the day and be broadcast live - or as live as possible - for all to view. The hundreds of competitors go head to head against each other, racking up points for the viewer’s entertainment. A team must earn at least 70 points in each event to qualify for the next event, and every team that scores the prerequisite passing score will move onto the next challenge - if they have survived. With the exception of the final event, teams may only continue to compete if they have at least two surviving members.

As for the competitions themselves? Well, they’re glad you asked. They’re absolutely delighted to reveal the lineup. These challenges represent the most devilish games ever devised and they will make this the most entertaining Aurora Blue Arena! in history. Well? Are you ready to find out what you’re in for? If you say so…--

EVENT 1: LIP SYNC FOR YOUR LIFE

The first event begins on Day :34. Every team will have two hours to come up with the most spectacular, unforgettable, amazing, show-stopping performance they are capable of. What kind of performance? Dance, of course. Each team must come up with a fully choreographed group dance number, complete with a hot name, a cool look, and sweet tricks which they will perform on stage for the entire galaxy to enjoy. This performance has to befit the competition, so you’d better make it flashy. You’ll have use of every piece of pyrotechnics available, every light - strobe, disco, and spot - every gel, every dope ass beat. These will be the tools you will use to craft the perfect performance. You wanna be on top? Then you better work. The judges will be scoring you based on technique, originality, presentation, energy, pizazz, and best use of deadly lasers.

EVENT 2: WAYPOINT WROBO WRESTLING FEDERATION

On Day :35, all remaining teams (approximately 1/6th of the teams will have been eliminated at this point) will be given control of two color coordinated, ridiculously designed and decorated 400-foot robots. The robots are for one to two pilots (they're MUCH easier to drive with two). Over the course of the event, teams will be expected to duke it out with opposing teams via tag team wrobowrestling - Face VS Heel. Don't forget your tag team's narrative device - Waypoint Wrobo Wrestling is as much about telling an elaborate fiction as it is beating the opposing team's giant robots to a pulp. Your team will be judged on skill, presentation, performance, and theme. Victory isn’t necessary but if you’re going to lose, you better lose real good.

REST UP, YOU'LL NEED IT!

Day :36 and :37 are off days - competitors are expected to chill out, reap the benefits of their fame, and prepare for the events to come. Get some shut eye! You'll need it! It’s also a good chance to mingle both with the remaining competitors and with your adoring fans. Standouts will likely start getting approached by people looking to possible strike up some lucrative endorsement deals.

Oh, and some competitors might be looking to narrow the field in some less savory ways.

EVENT 3: LEGENDS OF THE BEAST NINJA GLADIATOR WARRIOR MASTERS

Day :38 is the penultimate event of the competition. It's a challenge of strength, speed, dexterity and wit. The Legends of the Beast Ninja Gladiator Warrior Masters is a series of challenges one after another, made up of obstacle courses and puzzles, as well as short battle segments - one involves standing on a small, unsteady hovering platform as you attempt to use a pole to knock off your opponent, another has you bungee jumping around a battle cage as you try to steal your opponent’s flag hanging from their back while protecting your own. The course is a mix of running, jumping, climbing, balancing, lifting, and rolling, and the puzzles range from figuring out which door to enter and where to find the hidden key to elaborate mirror and light based secret picture mysteries. Most of the challenges will only be completed by a single member of a team (allowing team members to rotate out between challenges), however the final challenge - an elaborate obstacle course centered around fitting through small, oddly shaped moving holes - where you're required to be chained to your entire team - is very much a group effort. The judges will be scoring you based on your time as well as how many of the challenges you succeed in.

EVENT 4: DEMOLITION DERBY EXTRAVAGANZA & AWARDS CEREMONY

Day :39 is the last spectacular leg of the ABA!, followed immediately by the awards ceremony. There won’t be many teams left, so only about two dozen at most will be competing in the big finale - a massive demolition derby. The cars? Whatever your team manages to build (you DID manage to build something, right?) in the pit you've been provided. The demolition derby zone? Why, it's the entire Waypoint of course! There's no such thing as out of bounds, including the space surrounding Waypoint Shril. The only rule is stay alive and score enough points to win a place on the awards podium located at the central arena stage. Points are awarded by causing damage to or destroying others team's vehicles (and yes, your vehicle can and should be heavily armed), by performing amazing feats of bravery or total insanity, or for every teammate that's brutally murdered (either by their own teammate or by an opposing team - the ABA! and the audience isn't particular). By this point all remaining competitors should have at least 210 points. Once a team has accrued 300 points - helpfully tallied on every team’s dashboard - they may head directly to the winner's podium to take the highest available slot. If someone gets 300 points at the same time you do? Well, you better beat them there, shouldn't you?

OOC NOTES

As stated above, a catch-all log will be posted for the opening ceremonies and events. A separate log will be posted for the closing awards ceremony. Participation in the competition is absolutely not required for mission success; however, if your character is participating please use the appropriate subthread below to sign up your team. Please only have one sign-up per team (meaning if you're looking to find teammates, please make a general plotting comment or organize on plurk etc outside of the sign-ups thread proper). If you have any additional questions about the second half of Waypoint Shril, direct them to the appropriate subthread below.

Be aware that all character drops that happen OOCly won't take IC effect until Waypoint Shril wraps; we'll evaluate and integrate those once we've finished with Waypoint Shril, but for now it's safe to assume dropped characters are motoring around in the background.
