APRIL UPDATES!

Hi friends! This is just a quick roundup of general stuff we've been tweaking + one important topic of discussion.

Before we get into the boring summary of 'Adjustments We've Made Because It Seemed Smart', we wanted to broach the possibility of adjusting the IC:OOC day ratio of the game. We've noticed that everyone seems to be hanging back on tagging into new logs until they finish threads in old logs - which, honestly? Awesome! We think that makes total sense given the intimate nature of the game's CR and how small the playerbase is. What we don't want to happen is for people to feel like they're constantly in backtaglandia, so we're thinking of bumping the day ratio from 2:1 to 3:1, meaning three out of character days to every one in-character day.

The big question is when would making this change be the most effective? Right now with the 2:1 ratio, the Avera 9 mission is scheduled to end on April 10th, roughly when new applicants would be filing into the game. With the 3:1 ratio, we'd be pushing the end of Avera 9 to April 18th. As mods, we're confident we can make that work with new hatches etc. and that we can keep things on Avera 9 interesting, but the question is do you WANT your characters on Avera that long? It was definitely designed as a smaller scale mission, so if you'd prefer to change to the 3:1 ratio after characters return from Avera 9, that's fine too! Drop your opinions in this thread below if you have any!

Once this has been decided on (we'll give it a few days for everyone to chime in), we'll put up the calendar for April.

Now for the boring part; this is just a quick summary of minor changes we've made that we figured we'd mention in case anyone cared.
  • Application rounds have been shortened! They'll now run from the 1st through the 5th. We've also brushed up the app to include recommended word counts, powers and abilities in list form, and now ask for two thread samples instead of one to offset the abbreviated app body. (We've also added some example apps; thanks guys!)
  • We've adjusted the profile page write-ups for clarity and have updated the FAQ to include information on the rescue. In general, the FAQ should be up to date!
  • For the time being we've decided to re-use the first test drive meme going forward. Depending on how this works out, we may implement a brand new test drive in four month intervals - that way the old one doesn't get too crusty. But since the TDM isn't game canon and (fingers crossed!) it seems like player turnover is going to be relatively small, we feel recycling it is the best use of our time as mods so we can focus on in-game goings on.

As always, thank you everyone for your enthusiasm! We've been really blown away by how attentive everyone's been. If you have any questions or concerns about these changes/updates, please post them here! For all other questions, the FAQ and Mod Contact pages are always open.

I WAS EDITING BECAUSE I REALIZED I HADN'T ANSWERED:

"Oh, as for the question ... I think a lot of people haven't hit the mission log yet because of the timing (and there are people I want to tag, but I haven't finished our previous threads). Therefore, I think setting it to 3:1 now would be fine! Especially since I know you, as mods, are waiting for our characters to do things to decide later stuff."

I also agree with the comment below: I was in a game before that ran with "well, do you guys need more time?" polls occasionally before it was time to move on. I think being willing to play fast and loose with the time is a good idea. Maybe set it as 3:1 for now, with some flexibility if more time is needed (or if the playerbase would like to move on sooner). Given the nature of the game and the smaller playerbase, it will be easy to adjust accordingly.
